The Boleslav players defeated Swedish Elfsborg in spite of going down in the first half through a goal scored by Andersson. Pižanowski saved Ishizaki’s penalty kick before the break. Táborský and Mendy reversed the score in the second half and Voříšek confirmed the win in extra time. Mladá Boleslav strengthened their hopes for qualifying in the spring stage of the UEFA Cup thanks to this win, however, they need to add some more points to the three gained in this match.
The initial Elfsborg’s onrush resulting partially from more confident movement of the home players on the artificial pitch was stopped by Voříšek in the 17th minute. The Boleslav full-back took a free kick from the left-hand side line after a foul against Vaněček and his tricky pass flew through a thicket of bodies and bounced off the left-hand post, luckily into the arms of the surprised Elfsborg goalkeeper, Wiland. Events on the pitch balanced out, however, neither Vaněček nor Matějovský utilized their advantageous shooting positions.
Procházka nearly knocked the ball into his own net after Ishizaki’s centre pass almost from the right-hand corner flag in the 31st minute. Pižanowski saved reflexively but stressing Mathias Svensson got the ball in the net from an acute angle – 1:0.
The referee saw Hrdlička pulling the shirt of Keene in the 45th minute and ordered a penalty kick against Boleslav. So far the best player of Elfsborg, Ishizaki, fired the ball at the right-hand post but Pižanowski was there crucially a second sooner and deflected the ball.
Táborský fired the ball at the Wiland goal after a successful centre pass from Kysela from the left-hand side in the 66th minute – 1:1. The equalizer came like a bolt from the blue.Matějovský shrewdly passed the ball between the opponent’s defenders to Voříšek in the 79th minute; he topped his ten-metre sprint with a slide just before the line and centre- passed the ball in front of the goal, where Mendy overcame slack Wiland – 1:2.
Boleslav clearly dominated from Mendy’s goal. Physical strength visibly vanished from the Elfsborg team and the unfavourable turn in the score of the match also did not contribute to the morale of the home team.
Matějovský dodged among the defenders along the goal line at the very end of the match and confused the Elfsborg players with his unselfish pass. They committed a foul close to the boundary of the penalty area in a repeated effort to defend their goal. Voříšek hit the crossbar of the Elfsborg goal from the free kick, from which the ball rebounded into the net – 1:3.
