The Boleslav team has not won a home fixture in the Gambrinus liga this spring and as in the preceding goalless match against České Budějovice, the players suffered the same score-line against Viktoria Žižkov, the second last team in the league. They often wasted their passes in an unexpectedly nervous performance and could not overcome a weakening rival in final minutes as they pushed their opponents towards goal. No Boleslav player was able to produce a surprising final pass or push through the compact defence of a team under immense pressure.
The Boleslav players gained the first spring win on an uneven Kladno pitch that was not in favour of combination performance. The head-coach Pavel Hapal sent a basic line-up onto the pitch without dramatic changes when compared with the preliminary four league matches that his team did not manage to win. The left fullback Tomáš Hrdlička after an injury and Václav Procházka in the position of a defensive midfielder appeared for the first time in the basic squad. Papadopulos decided a nervous match with the only goal when he headed a centre pass by Kalina, coincidentally a former Kladno player, into the net.
Mladá Boleslav continued suffering even in the fourth match of the spring season and České Budějovice confirmed the reputation of the tie king of the Gambrinus League. The goalless draw is another disappointment for Mladá Boleslav in their bid for participation in the European Cup. The Budějovice team presented very well organized playing. The Dynamo players defended carefully and set out for dangerous attacks. The Boleslav players focused too much on avoiding conceding an easy goal and the necessity to close the gap on their rival like in the three preceding league matches. They performed unexpectedly nervously and inaccurately.
The Boleslav players lost the first half in which they conceded two goals and untimely saw Kalina sent from the pitch. However it was at least a point gained when they scored two late goals while playing a man down. Sylvestre reduced the gap in the 77th minute and Pecka equalized in the second minute of added time. The head-coach of Mladá Boleslav, Pavel Hapal, made two changes to the line-up from the preceding match. He deployed Rolko in defence and Kúdela in the centre of the midfield line. Procházka, Sedláček, Dittrich, Hrdlička, Nečas, Opiela and Šeda were left on the bench, and the injured Kysela, Řezníček and Táborský did not travel with the team to Haná at all.
The tradition of the matches between Boleslav and Brno was retained. And even twice – there were many goals and the guest team enjoyed points. The Boleslav team lost both home matches in the opening of the spring season when they conceded a total of six goals in them. After Jablonec, Brno defeated Boleslav, too. The Brno players managed to score important goals in the openings of both halves. Pecka and Papadopulos from the Boleslav team hit only the goal post in the first half and the referee Adam forgave the Brno defenders evident hand balls in the penalty area twice. It means that Boleslav slipped down from the second to the fourth position in the league standings.
The opening match of the 2009 spring season was unsuccessful and became a bitter experience for the Boleslav team because of two goals conceded from the boots of the experienced Jablonec players Čížek and Lafata. The Boleslav players wasted the whole first half when they gave an unexpectedly average football performance. They moved up a gear only after the second goal was conceded but it was too late for them to close the gap. “We did not deserve any points for the first half,” said very disappointed head-coach Pavel Hapal.
The Mladá Boleslav club invited the sixth team of the second league, Baník Sokolov, to the last preparatory match or final test of the playing form before the Gambrinus league. The Boleslav players overcame their rival clearly decisively and scored several times. Sylvestre made two goals while Pecka, Dittrich, Poláček and Kalina each added one. The head coach, Hapal exchanged all eighteen nominated players. Barely three hundred spectators came to watch the match from the frozen terraces of Městský stadion (Municipal Stadium) in Mladá Boleslav late Sunday afternoon.
They managed to participate in the start of lessons in the sports academy classes at the Pastelka 9th elementary school as well as to visit the Na Celně Children’s Home in the afternoon. They presented gifts and a good mood and supported the Advent atmosphere everywhere. They also confirmed that football is a natural part of both the common and festive lives of people of all generations in Mladá Boleslav.
The suspended Procházka and Rajnoch were missing as was the injured Hrdlička. Rolko came into the defence for Procházka and Opiela played in the centre of the midfield line, alongside an unexpectedly defensive Pecka who took over the captain’s armband from Rajnoch. Papadopulos was left to operate in a lone role in the forward line but was joined by Sylvestre frequently. After a nervous performance in the first half, the players turned their tactical plans into a win after the break with Papadopulos set up by Mendy and later a great finish from Řezníček after being played in by Opiela found him on the score sheet as well.
The Boleslav players won a match in which they dominated throughout, however they were unable to turn their dominance into goals. The Bohemians, encouraged by their preceding win against Sparta, came tactically prepared to Mladá Boleslav, as emphasised by a reinforced midfield line consisting of five players. The Boleslav players found it difficult to breakdown Bohemians and only obtained the due to their huge determination to win the match in particular. Substitute Jakub Řezníček diverted a centred pass from Kalina in the 86th minute to secure the win.
