At the past weekend, the French league has seen a surprise at the expense of Olympique Marseille, the rival of Mladá Boleslav in the first Round of the UEFA Cup. Olympique Marseille lost for the first time in this season unexpectedly in Nantes for which, on the contrary, it was the first win. In spite of the loss, Olympique Marseille holds the second place in the French league table, which is leaded by so far unbeaten defending champion Olympique Lyon. At the moment, Mladá Boleslav has a better position than its French rival for it still leads the Czech league without a loss.
In the pleasant autumn evening the longing of Mladá Boleslav for win was multiplied by the news that Liberec had lost two points in a North Bohemian derby with Jablonec. After an unexpectedly close match with Zlín, Mladá Boleslav gained a margin of two points in the head of the league and necessary self-confidence before Thursday's encounter with French Olympique Marseille.
By now, it has been a year that there is no doubt the stadium of Mladá Boleslav is an impregnable football stronghold. The statistics of the activity of FK Mladá Boleslav in the top inland league up to now clearly proof this fact. Only three teams have been able to win in Mladá Boleslav so far. Liberec managed to win here even twice, Olomouc and Teplice once. All other first-league teams playing in Mladá Boleslav either drew or lost the match.
Although Luboš Pecka, currently the best striker of Mladá Boleslav, did not succeed in any of his three chances he had in the match against Kladno he still remains on the top of the league strikers'rank. The last round brought no radical change. Ostrava's Střihavka is first again with six goals, after him Lafata from Jablonec and Pecka from Mladá Boleslav with four hits. In the last two rounds, Došek from Sparta caught up with three-goal Gašparík from Most.
The coach of FK Mladá Boleslav, Dušan Uhrin, believes his team will continue into the next autumn phase of the UEFA Cup. He sees the hopes of the Mladá Boleslav team for a reprise in the relatively favourable result of the first match, despite going down. The cup maths considers each goal important and doubly important when scored on the opponent's field. Therefore, the missed chances of Vaculík and Kulič in the first half were a pity.
The home coach didn't play four players of the core team (Ribery, M'Bama, Niang and Cana). The fifth missing player was dissociated Zubar. Mladá Boleslav entered the match at its best strength, i.e. in the currently strongest possible line-up. Marseille-based coach Emon used the 4-3-3 offensive playing system against 4-4-2 deployment by Uhrin.
The head-coach Dušan Uhrin emphasized at a press conference after the match in Příbram that a difficult program is ahead of the Mladá Boleslav team in the near days. He meant by saying it that the players must manage, except for normal sequence of league matches, also the match of the third round of the national cup and, above all, two duels of the first round of the UEFA Cup against the current leader of the top French league, Olympique Marseille.
The striker Pecka executed Příbram for the second time this year. By two goals in spring and by one marvellous shot this time. Mladá Boleslav confirmed the role of a front-runner in a sunny summer afternoon and the head-coach of the team Uhrin relied upon the opening line-up that demolished Prague Sparta in the preceding match. The fresh defensive reinforcement Rajnoch remained only on the bench.
Of the current players of Mladá Boleslav, Marek Kulič is undoubtedly the biggest national star in spite of the fact that he played the first two matches in the national shirt only it this year and experienced his premiere less than two months before his thirty-first birthday celebration. "It should probably go in this way," says the skipper of FK Mladá Boleslav conciliatorily. Twenty-four years old Marek Matějovský was invited to the September's qualifying matches for 2008 European Championship in the Brückner's team together with Kulič, but he still must wait for his first appearance on the pitch in the national team.
Football fans could read immediate impressions of the skipper of the Mladá Boleslav team and fresh international player Marek Kulič in most media, both traditional printed and Internet ones after the qualifying match between the Czech Republic and Wales 2:1. Kulič was a member of the opening line-up in his second start for the national team and struggled tirelessly alongside experienced Jan Koller. Kulič fascinated football fans by his performance and consequent statement that a player must even die in the national team shirt.
