Mladá Boleslav is through to the fourth round of the ČMFS Cup after a close win arranged by Tomáš Sedláček shortly after the break. With an exception of the first quarter hour, Mladá Boleslav was a better team. Unfortunately, it did not convert its chances and therefore the players were afraid about the result until the last minute. After advancing in the match with the division team of Letohrad, Mladá Boleslav will now encounter second-league Hradec Králové.
Martin Abraham is after Marek Kulič and Marek Matějovský the third player of Mladá Boleslav to be nominated in the Czech national team. League clubs have rest because of national team matched after the completed ninth league round. The players of Mladá Boleslav will take a rest only after the postponed cup match against Letohrad from the fourth division that takes place on Wednesday, October 4. Then they will start the three-day rest promised by the head-coach Uhrin for heroic performance against the French giant club Olympique Marseille. Marek Kulič and Martin Abraham will not certainly take part in the cup match against Letohrad. Both of them are expected in the national team for the qualifying matches against San Marino and Ireland.
Mladá Boleslav lost its invincibility in Teplice. After even first half, the Teplice players were more aggressive and more successful in terminating attacks. The players of Mladá Boleslav had not enough powers to reverse the unfavourable progress of the match this time. Fatigue from the demanding program during the last days was apparent on them. "We look forward to the break for national team matches, so that we could recover our strengths during that time," said the head-coach Dušan Uhrin about the defeat.
The UEFA Cup match between FK Mladá Boleslav - Olympique Marseille ended in a sensational 4:2 victory for the Czech team. The sports reporters, photographers and TV cameramen crowded in the press centre of the Metropolitan Stadium in Mladá Boleslav. The French coach Albert Emon commented match objectively but with an unbelieving expression on his face. Dušan Uhrin had to exert great effort to suppress the overflow of emotions following the happy outcome of the stressful match „I am deeply touched," admitted Jaromír Šeterle, Uhrin's boss and general manager of FK Mladá Boleslav. Crying men rambled through the stadium, enthusiastic team supporters celebrated outside, and all football enthusiasts marveled at this turn of events.
Coach Uhrin's team has achieved its greatest success so far when Mladá Boleslav put stop to Olympique Marseille ambitions, and progressed to the next stage of the UEFA Cup. The match did not start well for the Czech team. Mladá Boleslav received a goal and since the fifteenth minute it had to work on closing a two-goal gap of its French opponent, whose players started the match with more confidence. Fortunately for Mladá Boleslav, the French ended the match embarrassed and chagrined by their failure.
The second match between Mladá Boleslav and Olympique Marseille is truly an extraordinary opportunity for Dušan Uhrin, his colleague and the team players to prove their worth. The first confrontation of the Mladá Boleslav football with a large European club in Istanbul resulted in a five-goal thrashing, while a similar match in Marseille ended with a very tight defeat. Since the home rematch with Istanbul millionaires ended in a draw for Mladá Boleslav team, does it mean that the second match with Marseille stars will end in a victory? Dušan Uhrin believes it does.
After a short break, Olympique Marseille now returns to the lead of the French charts and aims to succeed on the European football fields as well. At the time being, the club ranks second in the French top league, just after the defending champion Olympique Lyon. Albert Emon, the fifty-three-year old coach of the French team, can claim much of the credit for the team's recent success. He prefers an offensive playing style and he admires the drive and effort that the Mladá Boleslav team puts into its matches.
The result of the first match between Olympique Marseille and FK Mladá Boleslav, when the French team won 1:0, has predetermined the chance of both teams to advance to the next round. Only a two-goal victory will give the Mladá Boleslav team the reason to celebrate. If they win 1:0, extra time will be played and if the extra time ends in a draw, the match will have to be decided by kicks from the penalty line. According to UEFA Cup rules and regulations, any other single-goal victory of Mladá Boleslav team, as well as a draw will result in the advance of the French (a goal scored on the opponent's pitch has a double value).
